Let Greener Lawns help keep your plant material looking Great!

Greener Lawns is prepared to provide care for your landscape trees and shrubs. Local landscapes consist of many varieties of plants in various growing conditions. At Greener Lawns we can improve your ornamental plants with high quality balanced fertilizations and with timely use of appropriate control products to protect your valuable landscape investment. We also are happy to discuss any special concerns you may have about your plants and their care..Most landscapes in our area do very well with a four application program. This would consist of a dormant horticultural oil spray in early spring, two timely pest control treatments during the growing season, and balanced fertilization later in the season. This schedule can be modified for specific needs of your landscape since plant material varies in needs and in susceptibility to environmental and pest problems.Spring dormant oil is very beneficial for control of insects and spider mites on many of our common landscape plants. It consists of a very highly refined oil mixed with water which can be applied to plant trunks, branches, and foliage. This is applied before the growing season gets underway on dormant plants. No residual odor is left during or after this spray. Use of this product is very beneficial on selected plants. It is also safe for humans and non target organisms. It is not a poison, but works by coating the target pest.Insect and Disease control treatments are recommended to manage foliage pests during the growing season. Most commonly these pests are insects, mites or leaf diseases. Timing and products utilized would vary depending on the plants to be treated. Examples of pest problems to be managed would be: caterpillars, spider mites, beetles, lace bugs, apple scab, and powdery mildew. There are many others. Before scheduling insect and disease controls we would visit your property and evaluate the needs of plant material present there. Recommendations would be given for treatment to protect plants from existing and potential problems. By managing pests, your shrubs and trees will show healthier and more attractive growth and color. Balanced fertilization of your shrubs and trees provides nutrients designed especially for their needs. The fertilization is typically applied in fall, but can also be done early in the season, too, if needed. The fertilizer contains balanced macronutrients as well as vital micronutrients to promote healthy growth, and to improve plant tolerance to environmental stresses.

Additional/Optional
Anti-dessicant or antitranspirant application can be applied in late fall to help protect foliage of evergreen plants from drying out during the winter. Evergreens exposed to winter winds or growing in full sun exposure get the most benefit from this treatment. An especially harsh winter might still cause some damage, but less than if untreated.Mauget tree injections may be suggested in some circumstances. Tree injections are made directly into the trunk of the tree. We can inject fertilizer formulations, insect control, disease controls, and antibacterial products. This method has been shown to be effective in control of many plant diseases, borer insects, leaf miners, and leaf feeding aphids, caterpillars, and adelgids. It is one of the reliable methods for control of the hemlock wooly adelgid insect. One big advantage to this treatment method is that all of the pest control material goes directly into the tree, it is not sprayed over the plant. For those of you with neighbors in close proximity or concerns regarding spraying, this is very attractive option. Deer repellent may be desired one or more times during the cool season to help minimize damage from deer feeding on certain plants. There are various strategies available to try to control the deer. Repellents can play a helpful role in protecting your landscape.
